Since a lot of my recent work has been at the web UI layer (HTML/JavaScript/CSS), my online reading habits have started to change too. I’m reading less about esoteric middle-tier architecture (a.k.a. ServerSide) and more about building compeling, user-friendly web sites. One resource that really stands out is Smashing Magazine.

This site is a pure goldmine for web development. It is very frequently updated, has lots of free content and is loaded with interesting, relavent content. For example, one recent post analyzed how top blogs are designed, including layout, typography, colors, etc… It was very interesting and provided a lot of valuable information for someone working on their own web UI.

If you’ve never taken a look at it before, and you appreciate building good-looking web UIs, you need to check it out.
